CHILD IBS-DIARRHEA

IBS-Diarrhea
What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome Diarrhea?

Most people define diarrhea as loose stools or watery stools. Others think of diarrhea as frequent bowel movements. Diarrhea is one of the symptoms often associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The key symptom of IBS is abdominal pain. The pain is associated with a change in the frequency or consistency of stool. The altered bowel habit may be chronic or recurrent diarrhea, or constipation. Some people have both diarrhea and constipation, just at different times. Bloating or distention in the abdomen is also common.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome Diarrhea is most often caused by:
-
IBS-D is not contagious, inherited, or cancerous. It occurs more often in women than in men, and the onset occurs before the age of 35 in about half of the cases. IBS-D occurs in 5% to 20% of children.
-
IBS-D also has developed after episodes of the stomach flu.
-
It has been suggested that the condition is caused by dietary allergies or food sensitivities, but this has not been proven.
-
Genetics also is suggested as a potential cause of IBS-D, but so far a hereditary link has not been found.
-
Symptoms of the syndrome may worsen during periods of stress or during menstruation, but these factors are unlikely to be the cause that leads to the development of IBS-D
Symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome include:
-
Changes in bowel movementpatterns.
-
Bloating and excess gas.
-
Pain the lower belly.
-
Mucus in stools.
