In some programs it is required that the medication be compared to placebos (fake pills).  Studies are designed so that neither the physician, patient or study staff knows which subjects are on active medication (real pill).  You are free to stop participating in the study at any time if not pleased with the results.  Also, the study physician may stop your participation if he/she feels you are not obtaining good results.
